FAQ's

 

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING? 

We provide all the yoga props required, however please bring a small towel with you.

 

DO YOU PROVIDE YOGA MATS?

Yes we provide all yoga mats and yoga equipment, however feel free to bring your own yoga mat if you prefer.

 

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Comfortable clothing that you can stretch and move easily in such as leggings, shorts, singlets, t-shirts.  Please ensure your feet are clean as we do yoga in bare feet.

 

DO YOU HAVE CHANGE ROOMS?

No, but there are toilet facilities that you can make use of if needed.

 

HOW LONG BEFORE CLASS CAN I EAT?

It's advisable to leave at least 3 hours after eating a large meal and 1 hour after eating a snack before doing yoga. 

 

CAN I DO YOGA IF I'M VERY STIFF AND UNFIT?

Yes yoga is for everyone. The Iyengar method of yoga makes use of yoga props to provide stability and offer support for stiff or unfit bodies. Our beginners courses are designed for people with no previous yoga experience. Regular attendance will improve your flexibility, strength and fitness.

 

IS THE foundation level COURSE FOR ME?

Our Foundation Level courses are suitable for any student new to yoga or new to the Iyengar method of yoga. This level is also suitable if you have done yoga in the past but have had a break and need to ease back into it. You will be introduced to the foundations of Iyengar yoga in a progressive sequence of classes over a 10 week period and this will stand you in good stead to move on to Intermediate classes when you feel ready.

 

WHICH IS THE BEST LEVEL FOR ME?

DO I NEED TO BOOK INTO A COURSE OR CAN I JUST TURN UP?

We strongly recommend you book into a course to ensure your place and to encourage a level of commitment.

 

IF THE 10 WEEK TERM IS ALREADY UNDERWAY DO I NEED TO WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT TERM BEGINS BEFORE I CAN ATTEND?

No need to wait. We’re happy for you to join us at any stage of the course and have a sliding scale of payment depending when you start. Contact us and we can discuss. 

 

HOW MANY foundation level CLASSES CAN I ATTEND?

If you have booked and paid for a 10 week Foundation Level course you can attend as many classes at this level as you like within that term. There are 5 Foundation Level classes each week.

 

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER I'VE FINISHED MY foundation level COURSE?

You may feel ready to transition to Intermediate classes or you may prefer to repeat foundation level for another term in order to consolidate what you have learned.

 

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I ATTEND?

Attending classes frequently will offer you the best results in terms of enhancing your flexibility, strength, fitness and overall wellbeing. By attending 2 or more classes each week you will see and experience benefits and changes to your body more quickly.

 

CAN I DO YOGA IF I HAVE AN INJURY OR ILLNESS?

Please advise your teacher of any problems or concerns you may be facing before class commences. You can email or call us to discuss before making a booking. If you have a chronic illness or injury we suggest you book a private class in which a teacher will work one-to-one with you to develop a sequence that supports your recovery. Contact us here.

 

HOW EARLY SHOULD I ARRIVE BEFORE CLASS STARTS?

Allow 10 -15 minutes before the scheduled starting time of the class to sign in, meet the teacher and to find your place in the yoga room.

 

WHAT IS CLASS ETIQUETTE?

Please ensure your mobile phone is either turned off or in aeroplane mode during class as a ringing or vibrating phone is distracting to all.

 

WHO ARE THE INTENSIVES FOR?

The Intensives are often specific to a certain level, whether it be Foundation Level or Intermediate. Occasionally they will be for “all levels”. Intensives are for those who wish to go deeper into the exploration of their yoga.

 

CAN I ATTEND A MASTERCLASS OR WORKSHOP?

Masterclasses and workshops are for those with at least 6 months yoga experience.

 

DO I NEED TO TELL THE TEACHER IF I AM PREGNANT?

Yes it is important to inform your teacher if you are pregnant, even if only a few weeks along. We will modify the postures for your ease, comfort and safety. You may choose to go to the prenatal yoga classes if pregnant, however you are welcome to continue on in the normal classes if that is your preference. 

 

DO I NEED TO TELL THE TEACHER IF I AM menstruating?

Yes it is important to inform your teacher if you are menstruating as we modify the poses in order to ensure the body is at ease during this time of your cycle.  During menstruating we don't practice inverted postures, strong abdominals, backbends or twisting poses.

 

SHOULD I DO PRACTICE AT HOME?

Any practice you do in between classes will benefit you and enhance what you learn in class. You will notice changes in your body and in your mind-state more rapidly. 

 

DO YOU OFFER PRIVATE SESSIONS?

Yes. Private lessons offer you one-to-one contact with your teacher and are an excellent way for you to explore a deeper understanding of your body and your practice. They can be of particular benefit if you are working with an injury or medical condition. Contact us if you wish to arrange a private class
